Simply Sweet Oatmeal


Well, the record heat here has finally subsided, pumpkin bread is appearing in bakeries, and I'm gearing up for scarves, boots and sweaters. As exciting as fall is for me, sometimes those cold mornings can be a little rough. So here's a great oatmeal recipe that has no added sugar but plenty of sweetness.


Simply Sweet Oatmeal

1 cup steel cut oats (makes 3-4 servings)

3/4 cup dates (finely chopped–about 1 1/2 cups when whole)

1/4 cup finely chopped walnuts

1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp vanilla

4 cups water

  1. Bring water to boil

  2. Chop walnuts and dates

  3. Add oats and turn heat down to medium to simmer for 15-20 minutes

  4. Stir in dates, walnuts and cinnamon to cook altogether for the last 7 minutes
