Tip: Breadcrumbs

Here's another tip that's so simple it shouldn't even count as a tip. Next time you find yourself needing bread crumbs for a recipe, you'll be ready. Remember those pesky bread heels that you only eat begrudgingly (if at all)? How about that lonely piece that doesn't have a partner to make a sandwich out of? Well next time you get down to those odd last pieces, turn them into freezer breadcrumbs to have on hand for any occasion.

Bread Crumbs

  1. Break them into fourths

  2. Throw them into a food processor until fine

  3. Stick the crumbs into a Ziploc bag labeled with the date

  4. Lay flat in the freezer

Next time your recipe calls for bread crumbs...

  1. Pull out as much as you need

  2. Mix in herbs, Parmesan cheese, olive oil, or whatever seasoning you want

  3. Sprinkle them on and bake/broil according to the recipe.

Shouldn't I toast them beforehand? Not necessary since you normally cook food with the breadcrumbs on it anyway, so they'll have a chance to get nice and crispy. This is fast, easy, and convenient. Plus they won't go bad for... a long time.
